What I Do

Ocean and You can provide programs for any grade level and any format. My teaching methods, using creative and critical thinking to promote conservation, are best suited to groups of 10-30 students. I would like to build an ongoing relationship with your teachers and students, to provide a coherent marine science education component to your school, daycare or after-school program. The ideal program would extend over 5-6 weeks, with one contact hour per week. (You may wish to contact JY Joyner elementary school to find out what they think of my 5-week after school program.) I will also gladly teach a single class - if you like what I do, ask for more. I will design a program to fit your needs and budget, but here are some ideas to start out.

In School Field Trips

For your next in-school field trip, consider having the ocean come to visit! An Ocean and You field trip brings the sights, sounds and feel of the ocean to your school. Curricula combine inquiry-guided science with stories, art, and music. All elements of the programs inspire and empower kids to protect the ocean.

Classes Aligned with NC Science Standards

Oceanography is a wonderful science, because it includes aspects of most other sciences. Ocean and You can develop programs to meet almost all of the NC State science competency standards, but a few examples are listed in this flyer.

After School Programs

After school programs may last anywhere from a single one-hour program, to a multi-week program capped by an assembly. Topics include marine life, the water cycle, seasons and our connection with the ocean. In Wake County, consider having Water Wednesdays presented by Ocean and You .

Daycares and Track Out Camps

Let Ocean and You enrich your children's day, with classes developed for informal learning environments. This flyer should give you some ideas.
